Diagnosis of arthritis is initially done by a general physician. The type of disease can be determined by conducting physical exam, blood tests and from imaging scans. When the diagnosis is uncertain or if the person has inflammatory arthritis, then a Rheumatologist should be consulted. If other parts of the body are affected, then the concerned specialists may be included in the health care team.
There is no cure for this disease. The treatment includes lifestyle changes, physical therapy, medications and orthopedic bracing. Treatment is done based on the type of symptoms and the associated arthritis. Surgery may be considered in rare cases and is done only when required.
